iOS 17.2 lands with Journal app, new skills for Messages, Action Button and Camera

Apple has released the iOS 17.2 update for iPhone and the iPadOS 17.2 update for iPad, introducing new apps and features to Apple’s smartphones and tablets.
The key addition isthe new Journal app(pictured) Apple has been promising since the summer. It’s designed to encourage users to write about every day happenings and accompany those moments with photos from your phone.
However, there are also key additions to the camera, which bringsSpatial Videointo play on the newiPhone 15 Prophones, as well as improved telephoto camera focus for those brand new models.

Continuing the updates for Apple’s best new phones, thenew Action Buttonnow has some new abilities, including the ability to access the Translate tool. This will enable easier conversations across the language barrier, or enable users to quickly translate a page.
There’s also a series of updates for Apple’s much-loved Messages app. There’s a new catch-up arrow that’ll take you down to the first unread message within a thread. There’s also Contact Key Verification so you know who you’re chatting with.
The Weather app will now tell you how much its expected to rain or snow, while there’s an improved selection of widgets for things like wind-speed, air quality and ‘feels like’ temperature. There’s a new wind map and an interactive moon calendar.
The update also features a bunch of improvements and bug fixes, including theAirDrop enhancements in the Wallet appas we reported last week.
Apple Music users can benefit from Favourite Songs Playlists in Apple Music, while there’s also the ability to disable your listening history so it doesn’t appear in recently played or influence your recommendations. This is a great option if you’re letting someone at your Apple Music account.
There are also new Sensitive Content warnings for iMessage to help you guard against the ol’ unexpected nudity, whileolder iPhones now get support for Qi2 wireless charging, which can unlock faster speeds.
How to download iOS 17.2
You can access the new iOS 17.2 update by hitting the Settings cog on your iPhone and then heading to General > Software update. On my iPhone 12 Pro Max the update is 1.27GB. You’re best off charging your phone up and performing this update over WiFi. You can also schedule it for tonight.
