How to get still photos from videos on iPhone

Of course, you’ve got the option of taking photos while recording videos on iPhone, but what if you didn’t capture a photo in the moment? Thankfully, there is a way to extract stills from videos shot on iPhone, ready for sharing with friends and family.

The Short Version

Step1
Open the video in the Photos app and tap Edit
You can use any video for this method.
Step2
Drag the slider to the frame you want to capture
Using the Edit window will allow you to be more precise.
Step3
Press the side and volume up buttons at the same time to take a screenshot
You can find both on the sides of your phone.
Step4
Tap on the screenshot
This should appear in the bottom left corner of your phone after taking a screenshot.
Step5
Drag the border in to crop the image
This will remove the Edit window controls in your image.
Step6
Tap Done
This will save your image.
Step7
Tap Save To Photos
That’s it! You can also save the image to your Files or create a Quick Note in the Notes app.
Troubleshooting
There are apps that offer the ability to extract photos from videos, but many of these are paid-for or ad-laden. It’s much easier to follow the steps we’ve outlined above.
You can capture stills as you record a video in the iOS Camera app by pressing the record button to initiate the video recording and tapping the white button in the bottom right corner every time you want to snap a photo.
