How to find 4K HDR content on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video

Netflix and Prime Video have two of the biggest libraries of 4K HDR content, but finding that 4K HDR programming is not as easy as it ought to be.
We’ve made finding what’s in 4K HDR content on each service much easier with this list of every film, TV series, documentary and comedy special that we know to be available in HDR.
If you don’t know, HDR stands forHigh Dynamic Range. Films and TV series in this format can take advantage of a wider colour range, greater contrast, and increased brightness for an image that looks more realistic and three-dimensional.
There are many streaming services that support 4K HDR, such as Prime Video, Netflix, Rakuten TV,Apple TV Plus, andDisney Plus.
Depending on the service, content is available in HDR10,Dolby Vision HDRor HDR10+. Prime Video supports bothHDR10+and Dolby Vision (although that’s with caveats), while Netflix is a bigDolby Vision.
Here’s how to find 4K HDR content on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
How to find 4K HDR content on Netflix
To find 4K HDR content on Netflix, you need a4K TVand/or a 4K HDR capable device compatible with theNetflix app. For the best picture quality, devices need to be compatible with HDR10 or Dolby Vision HDR.
For those watching via4K Blu-ray playeror anyother connected source, it needs to be connected to aHDMIport that supports HDCP 2.2 or later. Netflix recommends an internet connection of 15Mbps, with streaming quality set to High. You also need to be on Netflix’s Ultra HD Premium plan,which costs£17.99/month in the UK and $22.99/month in the US.
Netflix puts a HDR or Dolby Vision logo at the top of the title’s landing page. While there isn’t a dedicated HDR section, there is a row of 4K content floating somewhere in the interface. Not everything that is 4K is in HDR, but it’s one of the easiest ways of finding content in 4K HDR.

How to find 4K HDR content on Amazon Prime Video
Amazon beat Netflix to the punch with 4K HDR programming, but finding HDR content on Prime Video is even harder. This list focuses on content available in Prime Video streaming, not on titles you can buy or rent.
To play 4K HDR, Amazon recommends an internet speed of at least 15Mbps, and to identify what content is in HDR, the Prime Video interface now shows an UHD HDR logo next to selected titles on compatible devices.
However, we’ve spotted various titles that say they’re in 4K HDR only to turn to be in HD. So while titles that are currently on the service such as Mortal Kombat and In The Heights say they’re in HDR, it turns out they’re not.
Prime Video has content in HDR10,HDR10+and Dolby Vision. However, withPrime Video’s new ad-free tiernow in effect, you have to pay for Dolby Vision HDR. Suffice to say we weren’thappy about that decision.
New TVs that supportHDR10+ Adaptivecan benefit from that feature, and Prime Video offers the biggest library of HDR10+ content anywhere. Both LG and Samsung have auto-enabledFilmmaker modefor a number of their TVs, so you can watch HDR content in the way the filmmaker intended it to be seen.
Like Netflix there’s no specific 4K HDR category within the interface. In order to find HDR titles you’ll need to search through the vast amount on offer, which isn’t the most helpful. You can on Samsung TVs see both HDR10 and HDR10+ tags to know that they’re in HDR.
