It isn’t quite as simple as the Series X’s backward compatibility, which allows you to play a selection of titles from the Xbox One X,Xbox 360and even the original Xbox on the current-gen console. However, it is possible.

Can you play Xbox Series X games on Xbox One X?
You can play Xbox Series X games on an Xbox One, but there are some caveats.
First of all, the games need to be digital versions. This is because the physical disks designed for the Series X are not compatible with older consoles. For this reason, we wouldn’t recommend running out and buying any physical current-gen titles if you’re an Xbox One X player.
If that title has been released on both consoles – such asForza Horizon 5orElden Ring– you can play the digital version of either console. You can check which specific games are available on the Xbox One X on the Microsoft Store.
Likewise, if a game is available viaXbox Cloud Gamingyou can access it on an older console this way. That is, provided you have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription which will set you back £10.99/$15.99 a month.
